How Does the Toyota Remote Start System Work

How Does the Toyota Remote Start System Work

Getting into a vehicle that is too hot or too cold is a nuisance. Going out in the cold, snow, rain, or blazing hot sun to start the car in order to better regulate the interior is also a nuisance. Drivers probably wish there was an easier way to start their car from the comfort of their own homes.

Well, with the Toyota Remote Start System, drivers can war up their vehicles while staying cozy and dry inside their houses. This useful tool offers comfort and convenience to drivers and does much more than just starting the car.

How Do Drivers Use Toyota Remote Start?

On vehicles equipped with remote start capability, the process of using it is as easy as pulling out the vehicle’s Smart Key Fob. The key fob does not have a separate button for remote start; instead, the lock button doubles as the button that can also start the engine.

To remotely start the Toyota vehicle, the lock button needs to be pressed three times. For best results, the process should be to press the lock button quickly the first two times (within 1 second of each other) and on the third press, hold the button for about three seconds.

Drivers will need to be within 80 feet of the Toyota vehicle in order to activate remote start. If the signal is blocked by buildings, walls, or other cars, this range may be shortened. In addition, the Toyota’s engine will automatically turn off once a door is opened as a safety precaution against theft.

Can I Control the Temperature Settings with Remote Start?

When drivers remotely start their engine, the climate control system will default to the last setting. So, if the car was left with the air conditioning blowing at a chilly 58 degrees Fahrenheit, that is what will happen when the vehicle remote starts.

However, the vehicle is smart enough to make some adjustments without the help of the driver. If the climate control system is off when the remote start is activated, the system will turn on if the outside air temperature is less than 41 degrees Fahrenheit or greater than 86 degrees Fahrenheit. In these situations, the system will turn on and set the temperature at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. In weather below 41 degrees, the front and rear defrosters will also turn on.

How Long will the Vehicle Run After Remote Start?

Any Toyota vehicle that has been activated by remote start will idle for 10 minutes before automatically shutting down. However, if the driver needs more time, they can press the lock button again during the first 10 minutes to receive an extra 10 minutes of idle time.

If the Toyota vehicle idles for the full 20 minutes, it will shut down automatically. At this point, the remote start will not work again, and the vehicle will need to be manually restarted.

These Toyota Remote Start tips and tricks will help drivers better understand the capability of the system and navigate its use on a new Toyota Venza.
