Toyota Rav4 2020 Review – Pricing, Specs, Tech, & More
Posted on April 15, 2020
Toyota’s popular RAV4 compact crossover is now into its fifth generation, with 2019 seeing a major redesign boasting many added features. The latest Toyota RAV4 2020 release offers plenty of tweaks rather than a new overhaul, making it an even more desirable vehicle. Here’s what to expect.
Gas and Hybrid Powertrain Options
The 2020 RAV4 is available in both gasoline and gas/electric hybrid formats, with all vehicles based around a 2.5L I4 engine. With the gas-only models, the powertrain puts out 203 horsepower, while the hybrid’s additional electric engine increases this to a net 219hp.
Gas models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard, with regular all-wheel-drive an available option. Higher trims can also add Toyota’s new Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system, which varies power distribution to individual wheels for maximum traction under all conditions.
All hybrid RAV4 models feature continuously variable transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
Fuel Economy
The gasoline setup offers very respectable fuel economy figures of 8.8L / 100km (city) and 6.8L / 100km (highway). As you’d expect, the hybrid option considerably improves these already good figures, pushing the city rating down to 5.7L / 100km and highway to 6.3L / 100km.
Optional Off-Road Package
In the Trail trim, the RAV4 already has a solid off-road performer with upgraded all-wheel drive and an increased towing capacity. However, the optional TRD Off-Road package takes the Trail’s features even further by adding 18″ wheels with all-terrain tires, suspension tuned for off-road use, and powerful LED foglights.
However, note that the Trail trim is the only RAV4 configuration without a hybrid option available.

Interior Tech
Standard RAV4 interior tech includes a 7″ infotainment touchscreen, a 4.2″ driver information display, and six-speaker audio. Higher trims upgrade the touchscreen to 8″ and add navigation and exterior view monitors among much else.
Pricing
The base LE trim is available starting at $28,090, with the hybrid version costing $32,350. The off-road Trail trim clocks in at $38,890 with the TRD package pushing the price up to $44,191. Lastly, the high-end Hybrid Limited trim starts at $42,790.
The Verdict
The RAV4 range is a wide one offering plenty of choices within the compact crossover market. The standard gas models offer great all-around performance and fuel economy, while the hybrid versions reduce fuel consumption significantly without sacrificing any power. And for off-road adventures and superior towing capacity, the Trail trim offers excellent capabilities for a vehicle in this class and price range.
